US Internet control lead topic in Rio

NEW YORK - Debate over U.S. control of core Internet systems threatens to overtake an international meeting in Brazil next week that was meant to cover topics including spam, free speech and cheaper access.
The Internet Governance Forum is the result of a compromise world leaders reached at a U.N. summit in Tunisia two years ago. They agreed to let the United States remain in charge.
But they established an annual forum to discuss emerging issues, including whether control of how Internet addresses are assigned — and thus how people use the Internet — should remain with the U.S. government and an American nonprofit.

One Laptop Per Child: the dream starts to deliver

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - Low-cost computers meant to usher poor children worldwide into the digital age are being mass produced in China as US nonprofit One Laptop Per Child strives to deliver on its promise.
The first of the XO laptops being built at a Quanta Computer facility in Changshu are destined for Uruguay, marking a milestone for the charity group founded by Nicholas Negroponte in Massachusetts two years ago.
"Against all the naysayers ... we have developed and now manufactured the world's most advanced and greenest laptop and one designed specifically to instill a passion for learning in children," Negroponte said.

Review: HD video with a small camcorder

SAN FRANCISCO - Consumers are racing to replace their aging televisions with high-definition TVs. Trouble is, many are still using devices and services that can't fill those HDTVs with enough visual information to make them look their best.

Sony hopes to smooth the transition with the introduction of the HDR-CX7 Handycam ($1,199), a tightly designed video camera that can record images at high definition.Even if you think it's overkill for the kid's soccer game or the family picnic, you'll appreciate the crisp resolution as opposed to spreading standard-definition images over your big HD screen.

Apple and Orange at odds over iPhone deal: report

PARIS (Reuters) - France Telecom and Apple are struggling to come to an agreement on the distribution of the U.S. group's iPhone in France, Challenges reported on Thursday on its website.

France Telecom, which trades mainly under the Orange brand, declined to comment.
The French weekly said without citing sources that Apple and France Telecom were at odds over the percentage of service revenues the telecom operator had to give to Apple as part of the distribution deal.
If the two groups fail to come to an agreement, the launch of the iPhone handset in France in time for the crucial Christmas season could be jeopardized, Challenges said.

Subdued virtual world for Japan

TOKYO - Orderly, pornography-free and safe for children, "meet-me," an online interactive virtual Tokyo, is Japan's answer to "Second Life." Or so its creators hope.
Kunimasa Hamaoka, who oversees "meet-me" at digital marketing company Transcosmos Inc., is banking on the cultural differences between Japanese and Americans to compete against the world's top virtual community.
Japanese are so well-behaved and conformist, he says, they would prefer a more predictable and secure virtual environment over the free-spirited anything-goes of "Second Life," created by San Francisco-based Linden Lab.

Armani to launch mobile phone with Samsung

MILAN (Reuters) - Italian designer Giorgio Armani has joined forces with Samsung Electronics to design a television and a mobile phone, along with other consumer electronics, the companies said on Sunday.
Armani, one of Italy's leading fashion designers, will unveil a mobile phone model on September 24 at his show for Giorgio Armani womenswear for spring and summer 2008, joining several other designers who have already tapped this market.
The Armani-Samsung phone will be the size of a credit card and 10.5 millimetres thick, the companies said in a statement.
Designers Dolce & Gabbana have teamed up with Motorola for a gold-coloured version of the RAZR mobile phone model and Prada has developed a phone with South Korea's LG Electronics.
Armani said the liquid crystal display (LCD) television that it develops with Samsung will be unveiled in January 2008. Home electronics are still unusual territory for fashion designers, although several have launched interior design collections.

US cities' Wi-Fi dreams fading fast

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Ambitious plans for big Wi-Fi networks to provide free or low-cost wireless Internet access are being abandoned or scaled back by US cities as the economics of the deals turn out to be more challenging than expected.

San Francisco and Chicago in recent weeks abruptly halted plans to set up municipal Wi-Fi networks while Internet giant Earthlink, a partner for a number of cities, has begun a reorganization that will limit new projects.
Wi-Fi, one of the most popular standards for wireless Internet access, had been seen as a means of connecting more people at a relatively low cost, and city leaders across the United States had been rushing to use the technology for "digital inclusion" programs for low-income residents.
But cities and companies are finding the economics more difficult, with many expensive access points needed and relatively small numbers of subscribers signing on.

Vodafone: Will "absolutely" get chance to sell iPhone

Arun Sarin, Vodafone's chief executive officer has been making some cryptic comments to press in Mumbai.

After revealing earlier in the week that the iPhone only affected Verizon's customer levels temporarily after its launch in the States, Sarin has apparently been looking to the future for Apple's device. After the operator-partners have now been revealed for the UK, Germany and France, none of which are Vodafone, Sarin told reporters in Mumbai that Vodafone will "absolutely" get another chance to sell the iPhone in the next six to 12 months.
Without no further explanation forthcoming from the CEO, we can only speculate as to his meaning. The 02/Apple exclusive deal is believed to be for two years. So, with the Apple deal sown up with O2 in the UK and his comment coming whilst in Mumbai you could surmise that perhaps he was referring to other other, further afield, territories.

New Apple rumours - super slimline new MacBooks coming soon

With all the furore over the iPhone in the UK launch dying down, you might be forgiven for thinking that things would be a little quieter on the Apple rumour front, but no, we've got some exciting Apple gossip to impart.

9to5Mac, the site that not only correctly predicted the line up for the new iPod range, but provided on-the-money product shots (well, before Apple legal made them take them down) are reporting on some new Apple laptops. Intriguingly, they say that they think they are MacBooks, but aren't "100%" sure that they're not the much rumoured, and never produced, ultra-ultra-slimline super portable form factor, that they call the "Pro slim line".

Aston Martin UK's 'coolest brand'

Aston Martin is considered the coolest brand in the UK, thanks to its association with the James Bond films, a survey has found.

The carmaker has come top in the latest study by independent brand research firm Superbrands, which questioned more than 2,000 consumers.

In second place was Apple's iPod, followed by video website YouTube and Danish hi-fi firm Bang and Olufsen. Back in March, US giant Ford sold Aston Martin to a UK consortium for £479m.

Is it time for British astronauts to go into orbit? Watch this space . . .

Ministers are considering a £75m plan to join missions to the Moon and Mars, the British Association’s Festival of Science has heard

British astronauts could be in orbit by the middle of the next decade. An influential government advisory panel yesterday recommended an end to long-standing opposition to manned space flight.
A four-strong astronaut corps, two of whom would fly to the International Space Station, would be recruited from 2010 to prepare the way for participation in international expeditions to the Moon and Mars under a plan drawn up by a British National Space Centre (BNSC) working group.

British Scientists Develop Non-Stick Chewing Gum

Stepping in gum on the sidewalk won't be such a sticky situation anymore — scientists have invented non-stick gum.

Clean Gum, as it is called, supposedly can be easily removed from shoes and pavement (as well as from hair, skin, and clothes). So walk down the street without fear of ruining your favorite shoes.
Results from preliminary tests, announced today at the annual BA Festival of Science held at the University of York in England, also indicate that the gum will degrade naturally in water.

AMD launches new generation chip to compete with Intel

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Advanced Micro Devices Inc. on Monday introduced its next-generation microchip, codenamed Barcelona, in its long-awaited bid to regain ground lost to larger rival Intel Corp .

AMD's customers such as Dell Inc. , Hewlett-Packard Co. and Sun Microsystems Inc. are already shipping computer systems using the AMD Barcelona chip and the chipmaker has already booked revenue from the new semiconductor.
Intel, AMD's rival, has regained ground it lost to its smaller rival in the last two years as it introduced its own new chips with what it calls a quad-core design, a chip that has four central processing engines.

Facebook study reveals users 'trophy friends'

The circle of friends of internet users is expanding vastly, with some acquiring millions of new pals as if they were collecting action figures, stamps or collectables.

However, the overwhelming majority are merely nodding cyberacquaintances and the number of core friends remains mostly unchanged, at only around five people, according to a new survey.

Dr Will Reader and his team at Sheffield Hallam University have been studying how social networking sites, notably Facebook and MySpace, are changing the nature of human relationships and whether they represent "the next stage in evolution."

Microsoft attacks Google on books

Microsoft has launched a scathing attack on Google, saying the search giant's rival book-scanning service "systematically violates copyright".

Since December, Microsoft's project - Live Search Books - has allowed users to access certain publications which were no longer under copyright.

However, Google allows snippets of copyrighted works to be seen on the web on its Google Books Search.

A Microsoft lawyer has accused Google of cutting into authors' profits.

Installing Mac Osx In Intel PCS

First of all there are two ways to installing mac osx in Intel PCs.

1. Directly installation through DVD or

2. Installing through VMWere.

So here we are going to install mac osx directly on Intel pc so for that you will need some basic things like-------

Minimum space of 6gb on harddisk.

1. 10.4.6 Mac Os X patched DVD (Which one you can download from here)

2. Partition Magic or other disk utility.

So as you are having both things ready, Start partition magic and in partition magic you can find your all existing partitions. So apart from them select one in which you want to install mac osx and convert the partition into a primary partition , and yes make sure to get backup of all your data because in osx will clear your partition.

After doing these things just restart your pc with 10.4.6 Osx Dvd form the bios boot menu.
After that let the dvd boot and then press F8 and then press -v to start setup.
after that let the setup start and wait for one or may be two minutes and then you will get a dialog box for selecting your language that is english as our default language.

After that just click continiue and then accept the terms and conditions then you will have to choose the place where you want to install osx. So go to the disk utility and then and after choosing the partition we will have to format that so here we will have the whole osx partition. Then after selecting the harddisk in the left corner you will find some customise installation so select that and after that select intel or amd as per your processor. Select them and just press install.

After completing installation it will restart and you will have that dialog box
in which you have to select the country and also after that you will have to customise it. After completing all things you will directly start mac osx, and what about windows? So for that restart again with mac osx dvd and in utilities select startup disk in which you will find your windows xp partition, and in Windows xp you will have to get chain0 file which you will find
in your install dvd. So just copy the chain0 file to c: drive and then open boot.ini file and add this line

C:\chain0=”Apple Mac OSX 10.4.6″

save the file and restart your computer and here you will find both windows xp and mac osx in your pc.

Note. Use these installation tricks on your risk bases. We are not responsable for any couses or damages to your computer.

µTorrent 1.8 Build 11813 Final

µTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. µTorrent was designed to use as little cpu, space and memory as possible while offering all the functionalites expected from advanced clients. With BitTorrent, you can download files faster and contribute by sharing files and bandwidth.

Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in µTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). Additionally, µTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above, BitComet 0.63 and above) and peer exchange.

µTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources - typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren't there at all. Additionally, the program itself is contained within a single executable less than 260 KB in size.

Various icon, toolbar graphic and status icon replacements are available, and creating your own is very simple. µTorrent also has support for localization, and with a language file present, will automatically switch to your system language. If your language isn't available, you can easily add your own, or edit other existing translations to improve them!

The developer puts in a lot of time working on features and making things more user-friendly. Releases only come out when they're ready, with no schedule pressures, so the few bugs that appear are quickly addressed and fixed.
