Installing OSX Leopard in SanDisk-8GBMicroSDHC Card

in

Hay friends this is my latest article for installing Leopard in 8GB MicroSD Card...... Sounds bit new yes! its new

Last sunday i was thinking that everybody had tried to install in usb drive and in there laptop but now i am going to show you how you can install mac os in your 8GB-16GB MicroSD Card, its very simple...

My hardware was bit Complicated its HP DV 9820EA(HP DV9000) AMD 64X2 Turion and i had tried all os destros but never found luck, because of nforce or watever, every time i found only one error " Still Waiting for Root Device", which i am sure every one is geeting so, what i thought to install mac in SanDisk-8GBMicroSDHC- Card..

Hardware U Need .............. 1. 10.5.2 TO 10.5.4 any Leopard Copy, i had used Leo4All V2 10.5.2

2. SanDisk-8GBMicroSDHC Card or any card i had used the same 8gig card

3. I was using HP DV9820EA( AMD 64X2 Turion) notebook--- HP DV9000 series

now we are ready to start the installation....

1. Put the card in usb or directly into the card slot and dvd in the laptop or dasktop and start the installation by booting up form the dvd press F8 and press -v then installation will start, let the dvd load every thing...

2. Now once the file load it will show the welcome screen to select the Languages so select your language and press the next btn. now go to the disk utility and in the disk utility you will see your usb drive, ur 8gig card so select it and format it with Mac OSX Journel Partition, so format your USB Card...

3. Now press next and you will find the options for selecting Your drivers, so select nforce test which work for my laptop and also select NTFS drivers , then select your sound and display drivers and then select your ethernet drivers that you want for installation. Now in the installation just select language tools that u need only just deselect all fonts and other language translator tools, so that you will be getting enough space.

4. Now press and wait for the installation to complate. it will take 25-30 mins to complete....

5. If the installation was successfull the computer will restart , so when the computer restarts just go to bios and in the boot priority select your usb volume(Gneric Drive-- someting like that ) and save the settings

6. Now the computer will restart and you will see the pc will boot form the usb pen drive so , press F8 and type -v so that you will see the files will load again for a while and then

congratulation , finally you will move to welcome screen so now select your country and finish all the settings and you will be through from the setting and hopefully you will see the mac osx screen......

----->>>>>> Its too good for me cause its in memory card and i had another desktop too so what i need to do is just take the card and put in another desktop card reader and just need to boot form card that's it and it start to work and yes it also recognised my other partition so its easy for data transfters...

Enjoy and wait for Installation Videos..............
Please wait for the installation video , i am going to upload soon..... Thanks

iATKOS v4i (10.5.4 Intel dvd) is released

Hi people,
It is on its usual place now, like the old days, green demon..

enjoy

Image

- 10.5.4 main system of v4i including modbin 9.4.0 kernel is compatible for darwin x86 non-efi mbr systems by default. Users can select stock packages for efi systems.

- Like the v2i, v4i also includes netkas pc-efi 8, supports GPT (Guid Partition Table) and MBR (Master Boot Record).

- Some system bugs of v2i including some link errors are fixed.

- Improved sata support. I had no chance to test it so you will do it ;)

- Includes speedstep support for compatible cpu's like the older versions of the team. Speedstepping package includes 9.2.0 speedstep kernel.

- 2.64 GB dvd size.

I am running it for a while, tried many apps without any issues. Sleeps and wakes up well on both lappy and desktop (with right package selections of course), stepping is also nice on my lappy. We'll see the results.

here is the readme..

(ENG)

Welcome to iATKOS v4i Installation..

Credits goes to Apple and OSX86 community..

prepared by uphuck, eskurza and the rest of OSX86.Türk team..

Special thanks to people that support our work..

Attention:

1- This DVD is designed for Intel architectures.
Minimum requirements: Intel SSE3 CPU, 512MB RAM, 12GB free space on target partition.

2- This DVD includes Apple's OS X Leopard 10.5.4 (9E17) installation.

3- Make sure that the md5 checksum of your iATKOS iso image matches the one posted on our website. Otherwise you may have a faulty DVD image. Use quality media/burner and burn slowly.

Information:

- This release supports GPT (Guid Partition Table) partition map scheme. You can change your partition table type to GPT via Disk Utility or some other partition managers. We advice Parted Magic Live CD which is based on GParted.

- This release also includes Darwin EFI emulation boot for MBR (Master Boot Record) harddrives. Intel Core CPUs can use stock kernel and stock ACPIPlatform with EFI emulation on MBR and with GPT. This increases stability and performance.

- Intel CoreDuo Processors have appropriate SpeedStep Technology which is stable in OS X. If you have such processor, you can enable throttling feature using the "SpeedStep" package which you can find under system drivers section. Don't select any of the kernels with speedstep support if you don't want to have kernel panic.

- There are some boot options for some various hardware. Boot DVD, press F8 and enter:
nforce -v
for nForce motherboards with intel SSE3 CPU
nforce_core -v
for nForce motherboards with Intel Core CPU
toh -v
for booting with ToH 9.2.0 kernel which works nice on many types of hardware

Installation:

1- Run Disk Utility via Utilities menu and erase the target partition for clean install. Do partitioning if you need to.

a- You can choose MBR (Master Boot Record) or GPT (Guid Partition Table) via partitioning options. If you want to change your existing partition table type, know that all your existing data on disk will be gone.
b- For Windows fellows that has not tested this amazing system yet and that does not want to loose their windows software, porn and virus&trojan archive on D:\, should use Parted Magic Live CD for preparing an active primary target partition and after that, just erase it via diskutil. Jump to Step 2.

2- Select the destination for installation.

3- Click customize and select what you need.

4- Click Install.

Install time is about 20 minutes.

Multiboot:

iATKOS 4i has no integrated procedure for multibooting but preparing a multiboot GPT or MBR system with this release is easier than ever.

Here is a ''How To'' for GPT and MBR triple boot including Mac-Vista-Linux.

- MBR (Master Boot Record) triple boot -

- Change your partition table type to MBR (msdos type) and create 3 primary partitions by using Parted Magic Live CD or iATKOS Disk Utility. HFS+ format for OS X target, Fat32 for the others.
Note: %99.99999 of the PC harddrives already have MBR partition map scheme (msdos type) which you can change it to GPT via Parted Magic CD or iATKOS Disk Utility if you like to.

- Add boot flag to Vista or Linux target and install the OS' in any order you like. For linux, do not install bootloader to MBR, install it to linux root.

- Boot iATKOS 4i DVD and install OS X to its target as usual.

- Now you need to repair Vista. Add boot flag to Vista partition, boot Vista DVD, select repair, add boot flag to OS X partition, thats all.

Now you have triple boot on MBR.

Note: Adding boot flag to MBR partitions: Boot Parted Magic Live CD, right click to partition, select flags and click to boot.

- GPT (Guid Partition Table) triple boot -

- Change your partition table type to GPT (Guid Partition Table) and create 3 partitions by using Parted Magic Live CD or iATKOS Disk Utility. HFS+ format for OS X target, Fat32 (msdos) for the others.

- Boot iATKOS 4i DVD, install only bootloader to OS X target. ***

- Boot Vista DVD and install it to first Fat32 partition.
(Note: System marks first Fat32 partition for booting Foreign OS'. If you choose other than first Fat32 as target for Vista, then during installation, system will not continue install process at first Vista boot.)

- Boot Linux media and install the OS. Install the bootloader to linux root.
(Note: Some live linux cd stuff (knoppix, kanotix, parsix, etc.) has built-in installer applications and they use gparted for partitioning and formatting targets. At this point, formatting target to linux fs via Gparted is not a good choice, use unix fdisk just for changing the target partition type from ''c0'' to ''83'' which is linux partition type and then continue installation.)

- Boot iATKOS 4i DVD and install OS X as usual.

Now you have triple boot on GPT, thats all.

As you see, preparing multiboot system on GPT is more practical and easier.
Darwin on GPT will see other OS' as Foreign Boot.

*** For pro-users: You can re-install Darwin bootloader by booting the iATKOS DVD with -s. Boot with -s and enter darwin command, follow the instructions. For MBR HD, you can add boot flag via fdisk after darwin installation.

Known Issues:

1- Jmicron IDE controllers are known to have issues with OS X.

2- Some 965 chipset MSI and ASUS motherboards (desktop and laptop) have issues with this OS. ACPI errors while booting with DVD and also with hd. There will be patches for those uncompatible devices and there is also a patch for 1.0ir2.

3- This dvd may not include all the necessary drivers required by your setup. Additional steps may be needed to be taken by the user to setup and use such components.

4- Be sure that the labels of your hfs+ partitions are not similar. ie. Mac 1, MacOS or Leopard X, Leopard Y. Installer may fail to determine the target partition to install the system if the labels match.

Unsuccessful Installation and Related Symptoms:

1- I get the error "com.apple.Boot.plist is not found" while booting the DVD

--> You are probably trying to boot from an unsupported controller.
~ You should use usb dvd rom drive, or you may need sata-ide convertor for your dvd rom drive (jmicron).

2- System freezes at grey screen by booting the DVD.

--> You probably have an unsupported chipset.
*965 chipset ASUS or MSI motherboard/laptop
*many VIA, SIS, ATI chipset motherboards
~ Change your hardware :)
~ A patch can be possible for 965 ASUS/MSI hardware, so keep on watching this community.

Installation Guides/Kalway AMD 10 5.2

First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone in the OSx86 community, from the creators of the different distros to the server maintainers to the people willing to post on the forums. You have all made my life so much easier and made what I am about to document possible. Special thanks go to:

-Kalyway & Co. for building the 10.5.2 ISO with such great AMD support

Now, let me apologize. I am not very good with wiki's, so the format of this page is gonna be a little rough. I'm open to people helping smooth the flow out as long as none of the content gets removed though :)

So, onto the good stuff. What I accomplished about 3 hours ago I have never been able to find documented thoroughly on the forums or on these wiki pages. There is another AMD installation guide for 10.5.1, but I found the instructions to be sub-par and the items provided for download to be frustratingly inadequate. So, here's what I have OS X running on (and what I am currently writing this wiki article from):

Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI Premium nForce4 chipset, BIOS 1009
Processor: Socket 939 Athlon X2 4200 (or 4400, whichever the 2.2 ghz model name is)
RAM: 2 gigs of DDR1-400, Corsair XMS
Hard Drive: 200GB Western Digital IDE 7200RPM Special Edition
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 3870 HD w/ 512 Megs of Ram
Sound: Onboard Nvidia sound
Microsoft Natural 4000 (its native USB, not one that you could revert back to PS/2)

Basically, its about as far from a Mac as you can get these days, with the possible exception of the HD (although I don't think they use WD, could be wrong). I do own a lovely Powerbook though, and own a genuine copy of OS X. Please, I would highly recommend going out and purchasing a copy of this fine operating system, and then donating to the Kalyway team. Even a dollar is helpful to the cause. . . .

Updates

I'm going to try to keep this up to date the best I can with fixes and such.

Updates for 4/26/2008:

  • Apologies to anyone who couldn't post questions. The topic seems to have gotten deleted / lost over at insanelymac. I've reposted the new link. Thanks.
  • I created a thread over in the forums found here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=101755 Please post any questions / criticisms over there. Thanks :)

  • Set up an issues section
  • Added to the issues section my forcedeth.kext issue i found and a fix
  • Added to the issues section how to fix the rosetta problem i found . .

Updates for 4/31/2008:

  • Well my A8N board is giving me some hassles detecting the IDE Primary and Secondary Masters... it takes forever to stat them, and sometime won't at all. [sigh] When I CAN stat it though, OS X is working nice
  • Ran into a small issue with my keyboard not being detected. The fix so far seems to be moving the keyboard from one USB slot to the other. Anyone else having this issue? I temporarily added that fix until I can work out a final fix.
  • There appears to be some efforts in the community to get the nforce4 SATA controller working in os x from various **nix distros. I will see what i can pull off loading it afterwards. Anyone have any luck in this arena?

Pre-Requirements

OK, this is the part that took me literally weeks to figure out, and will make your lives so much easier, thus why I'm sharing.
1) First, the Sil3114 driver is shoddy, and the Nforce SATA non-functional, so do yourselves a favor and find a nice cheap IDE drive.
2) Set that Hard drive as the primary master. MAKE SURE TO SET THE JUMPER CORRECTLY. CABLE SELECT WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY.
3) Make SURE that your DVD drive is set to the SECONDARY MASTER and that you also set that jumper correctly. Cable select again will not work.
4) Download the Kalyway 10.5.2 AMD / Intel ISO. It's available through the normal channels.
5) Download the forcedeth.kext from here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=12933 Put it on a USB stick formatted FAT32 (or HFS if you please).

    • NOTE I tried both the Kalyway and the iATKOS 1.0ir2 CD's. In my opinion, the iATKOS install needs a LOT of polishing before it will be what Kalyway is already at. I do thoroughly enjoy having multiple teams working on something, but the Kalway install is much more streamlined, and for installing on non-Intel hardware, you need all the help you can get. Also, iATKOS doesn't have the nForceATA kexts included, so you get screwed on boot. . .
    • NOTE: DUAL BOOTING - For people installing on Western Digital HDDs. There is no need to set HDD to MASTER if you're using only 1 HDD. No jumper is required to set to Master. If you do have the jumper set to MASTER after installation and on reboot and if you use GParted to set active boot partition back to Windows, you will get INVALID/NON SYSTEM DISK. This is a quirk with Western Digital drives. (This will save you from tearing your hair out as to why it won't boot to your Windows OS selector screen.)

The Good Stuff

Let me give credit where its due, I did utilize a few instructions that is in the 10.5.1 installation how-to for AMD that is linked on this wiki. But I'd have to say 98% of this is my own work. But thank you :)

So, lets get started.

1) Make sure you have everything downloaded that I listed in the pre-requirements.
2) Burn the Kalyway install to a DVD (single layer is all is required).
3) Keep the DVD in the tray, and reboot.
4) Access the BIOS.
5) On the main screen, make sure the IDE drive is primary master and the DVD is secondary master.
6) *OPTIONAL*Disable the Silicon Image Controller under Peripherals (for the sake of faster booting really. OS X won't detect it, so if you wanna leave it on, no biggie. )
7) Enable the AC97 sound if it's not already enabled.
8) Make sure the DVD drive is set to boot first, or else you'll have to pick it from the F8 boot menu
9) Save and Exit.
10) BIOS posts, and the kalyway DVD should load. Press F8 here and type -v to boot in verbose mode.
11) During POST, you'll see a lot of messages that if you've never used an open source OS before, you're probably not going to understand most of it. The important parts are that you see nForceATA get loaded, and that your HD gets loaded. THIS IS THE PART WHERE THE DREADED "still waiting for root device" appears. If you get the error, double check the requirements I set above.
12) Assuming you survive step 11, OS X should load the installer. It takes a decent amount of time, even with a 16x DVD drive, so be patient. Verbose mode helps because stuff actually comes up every so often to show its doing something before the GUI loads up.
13) Click next once you can, and then along the top the menu will load. Click Utilities, then Disk Utility.
14) Disk utility takes a little while to load and stat the available disks. It is here you will partition the drive you wish to install on. Click the Drive (not the indented names. Those are partitions already on the drive) and then click the "Partition" tab that shows in the right hand window.
15) Choose a Partition scheme of 1 Partition, name the drive "Leopard" and choose the Journaled File System (not case-sensitive). Now there will be a button labeled "Options" below the big rectangle representing your drive. Click that.
16) On the resulting window, make sure MBR is checked. I realize Kalyway claims GUID will work, but its only tested on Intel. MBR worked for me, so its what I recommend.
17) Click Ok, then OK on the original screen. It will warn that your going to erase whatever partitions are on the drive, and that one named Leopard will be created. Go ahead and OK that. It will take a second or two.
18) Once that finishes, close Disk Utility.
19) Proceed through the install, selecting the proper disk you just formatted, until you come to where you are about to begin the install, and there is the all important Customize button. Click that.
20) WHEW step 20. Take a breather, grab a drink, the next part requires some focus.
21) The customization screen opens. This is where Kalway distinguishes itself from iATKOS extremely.
a) Kernel: select ONLY the sleepycat kernel (default). If you want to hear about WHY sleepycat, read my kernel talk at the bottom.
b) VGA: I am using a Radeon HD3870. You'll have to dive into the menus, select the one labeled X2000_AND_X3000_HD and the NATIT selection. They're well marked.
c) I selected the forcedeth driver under networking, but it seemed to not install properly (thus for the USB copy).
d) The default sound selections worked for me... make sure both of the AC97 drivers are selected. I'm unsure which one it actually picked up.
e) If you want any of the "free" software, pick what you want.
f) Feel free to not install any of the language translations you won't need. If you like reading Japanese anime/manga though, or have any plans of using iTunes with foreign tag names, keep the translations.
g) AMD Patches: I selected Patch1 and the processor fix. It seems both are required for my motherboard. Your mileage may vary.
22) Click ok, and then click Install. Feel free to skip the DVD check. It takes eons to complete the check. Then wait about 20-40 minutes (depending on your selections) to install OS X.
23) Reboot the machine, remove the DVD from the drive when it POSTS.
24) Use the F8 boot menu to pick you HD, or just let it ride if no other boot devices are installed.
25) The Darwin boot loader should come up. Press a key, and then use -v for verbose just to watch the first boot.
26) With any luck, all will work well, and you will be greeted with the Leopard First-Run nonsense (I really wish they would let you bypass the damn "cute" intro).
27) Run through the registration. It won't have any internet connectivity (unless you got lucky and either the Yukon or the forcedeth drivers actually worked. They didn't in my case)
28) Plug your fancy USB drive in. Copy the forcedeth.kext onto the desktop.
29) Open Terminal
30) Change directory to your desktop (cd Desktop)
31) Issue these 3 commands:
sudo chown -R root:wheel forcedeth.kext
sudo chmod -R 755 forcedeth.kext
sudo kextload forcedeth.kext
32) With any luck, the forcedeth kext will load, and System Preferences will pop up an alert you have an unconfigured network card.
33) Click open, the new window opens, click the "advanced" button, then click "Ethernet" tab.
34) Set Configure: Manually, Speed: Autoselect, MTU: Standard (1500)
35) If you're running DHCP, you should receive an IP. If you're not, you saw where to enter that info.

THAT'S IT! You have a fully working OS X installation on an non-Intel platform!! Ok so its missing the SATA drivers and the one network card. The network card issue is fixable, there are drivers. The SATA support is crappy though. In my opinion, that the fault of the manufacturers for making crappy sata controllers. Do some research, get a nice PCI-Express sata controller (I personally like the Areca 1210, but im unsure if its OS X compatible).

--Post Mortem--
OK so you got it all working. But you want the ethernet driver to load automagically. No problem!
1) Open Finder
2) Click on you Hard drive (mine is named Leopard)
3) Double-click System
4) Double-click Library
5) Double-click Extensions
6) Drag and drop the forcedeth.kext into the new extensions window. It will fail to copy.
7) Click the authenticate button in the error window, and type in your password (this basically is the GUI way of doing the sudo cp -R command)
8) You should see the kext copied in. Now reboot, and let the magic happen! .

OSx86 - How To install Mac OS X on VMware Server & AMD 64

Ingredients:
1. VMWare Server

2. Mac OS X 10.4.6 iso

3. Daemon Tools 3.4.7

4. At least 6Gb of Free Space.

Machine Specs:AMD 64 3500+

1Gb RAM

1. Download and Install VMware ServerVMware Server is available for free at www.vwmare.com

2. Download and Install Daemon ToolsDaemon Tools available for free at www.daemon-tools.cc

3. Obtain a legal OS X 10.4.6 ISO When possible you should operate from a legal copy of the operating system. The image I used is ”Mac OS X 10.4.5 Jas.iso”. *cough*cough*

4. Mount the ISO VMware has the ability to mount CD/DVD images but not HFS+ images (the file system used by the Mac OS X installation DVD). You will thus need to load the iso into a virtual drive. I used Daemon Tools version 3.47. Some guides say Alcohol 120% is easier as you can skip step 5b.

5.Create a Virtual Machine Fire Up VMWare, Select Local Host. Click on New Virtual Machine. Click Next at the Wizard. Select Custom then Next. Select Other, then pick FreeBSD and click Next. Installing Mac Osx In Intel PCS

First of all there are two ways to installing mac osx in Intel PCs.

1. Directly installation through DVD or

2. Installing through VMWere.

So here we are going to install mac osx directly on Intel pc so for that you will need some basic things like-------

Minimum space of 6gb on harddisk.

1. 10.4.6 Mac Os X patched DVD (Which one you can download from here)

2. Partition Magic or other disk utility.

So as you are having both things ready, Start partition magic and in partition magic you can find your all existing partitions. So apart from them select one in which you want to install mac osx and convert the partition into a primary partition , and yes make sure to get backup of all your data because in osx will clear your partition.

After doing these things just restart your pc with 10.4.6 Osx Dvd form the bios boot menu.
After that let the dvd boot and then press F8 and then press -v to start setup.
after that let the setup start and wait for one or may be two minutes and then you will get a dialog box for selecting your language that is english as our default language.

After that just click continiue and then accept the terms and conditions then you will have to choose the place where you want to install osx. So go to the disk utility and then and after choosing the partition we will have to format that so here we will have the whole osx partition. Then after selecting the harddisk in the left corner you will find some customise installation so select that and after that select intel or amd as per your processor. Select them and just press install.

After completing installation it will restart and you will have that dialog box
in which you have to select the country and also after that you will have to customise it. After completing all things you will directly start mac osx, and what about windows? So for that restart again with mac osx dvd and in utilities select startup disk in which you will find your windows xp partition, and in Windows xp you will have to get chain0 file which you will find
in your install dvd. So just copy the chain0 file to c: drive and then open boot.ini file and add this line

C:\chain0=”Apple Mac OSX 10.4.6″

save the file and restart your computer and here you will find both windows xp and mac osx in your pc.

Note. Use these installation tricks on your risk bases. We are not responsable for any couses or damages to your computer.
